Introduction: HERO AND FRIEND

I am currently reading "Henri Cartier Bressons" Biography.
He has been an important photographer who i keep researching into and in a way, keeping me " in tune" when taking my own photos.

Section from book:

"A moment ago you asked me if still took photographs."
Indeed.
"Well, i've just taken one of you, but without a camera - it's just as god. The top of your glasses is exactly parallel with the top of the frame behind you - quite striking. I couldn't miss the chance of such perfect symmetry...there, it's done! Now what were we talking about? Ah yes, Gandhi . . .did you know Lord Mountbatten?"

This was on page2 of his book . . .i knew this was going to be a learning experince in itself!

Listening to Ben Folds-Army

Iv been interested in looking at photographers contact sheets rather than individual prints. I think you can get a better sense of what the photographer was thinking, feeling etc when they were taking the photos. Robert Frank's contact sheets are fascinating to look at. You can def see narrative, a journey and also trying to get that "perfect shot". Another example has been Diane Arbus . . . Mind blowing, esp the contact sheet of the two parents with their giant son! ( i will get exampes of these)

Here is just an example of my work . . .it was taken on christmas day and its an on going project on documenting my dad. Enjoy!

Just been watching the commonwealth games and I have just been amazed. Has anyone heard of Rhythmic Gymnastics? Seriously, if you havnt, check it out . . .esp the ones which involves a ball.

have no idea what i should write, this seems really silly to me, hopefully it will get better!?
"mark cant write his blog" . . . joe and alfie singing to me, they are my housemates!! i cant concentrate!!!!!

ok, im in the editing process for "my box of twelve photos - NYC, decision" at the moment. When i went to new york city i didnt want to take the same tourist photos as everyone else . . .even with this in mind it was very hard. So when it came to viewing my photos as contact sheets, i noticed that certain images fell nicley next to each other, across as well as down. This interested me as i had just done an essay on "does anyone trust photography anymore?" and how viewing contacts sheets can help you deicide the truth and what other photos had been taken previous and before. I was going to produce a book for these to be viewed in but changed my mind because i like people to see my images that i have developed. Also feeling the texture of the photographic paper, viewing the txt on the back of how long it has been exposed for . . .etc shows the photographers chain of thought.

God, its taken me half an hour to write this.

This photo is by Robert Doisneau, fantastic . . . hes someone i have been researching into, i love this type of documentry photography! il leave it with you.
